Paul Washer: CAN I GET SAVED AND LIVE IN SIN?

Nothing in My Hand I Bring

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven (Matt. 7:21).”

‘You don’t wanna go to hell do you?’ What are you trying to get them saved based on self-preservation? You set a field on fire and every venomous snake in that field will run away from that fire, but when it does it’s still a venomous snake. The question is not, ‘Do you want to go to heaven?’, or ‘do you want to escape hell?’. The question is, ‘Has God so worked in your heart that you want God?’. Has God so worked in your heart through the gospel I’ve preached unto you that the sin you once loved you now hate? . . . Do you see that you have no merit to yourself and that the only way to God is through the virtue and the merit of Christ and what He did for you on that tree? . . . Can you cast yourself upon it, forsaking everything, repenting even of good deeds . . . Repenting, turning away from trusting in your good deeds, and throwing yourself on Christ alone!

To Be Or Not to Be . . .

. . . that is the question . . . to be only a two-hour delay, or to develop into a SNOW DAY?

I really have no preference.

Really.

. . . really.

right.

The Title of the Blog

The new year begun, the 3rd period of the school year started, (um, a third something in this list would sound great but I'm struggling.) . . . This January has sent me a couple snow delays but no snow days yet. Which wouldn't be depressing, except that I hate 2 hr. delays. We then start school at 10:30 and go to lunch at 11:30 - basically, time for Bible and little else. Everyone says it's better than making up a snow day, and I really don't want to do that, but the frustrating feeling of not having enough time to get everything done, but still feeling like you should . . . I'd rather lose a day and have to make it up.

So . . . Dear Snow Days . . . Where are you?

October Seasonal Bulletin Board

Love how this little bulletin board turned out! The beaver's verse says, "The grass withereth, and the flower fadeth, but the word of our Lord endureth for ever." The different leaves have verses about the Word of God. Some bad pictures of them below:

How selfish must I be?

I'm not listening to you. My eyes are trained on your face, my body language is indicating the engagement of my mind in what you are saying, but I'm not listening to you. The truth is, I'm thinking about what I'm about to say. You see, you said something that I can relate to. In fact, I personally think my story is even better than yours. Any second now you're going to pause and take a breath. I'm waiting . . . and formulating the phrases that I'll begin my story with. It's going to sound eloquent. Yes, I'm nodding, this seems an appropriate place in your story to do so . . . wait . . . "I know! I've had the exact same problem except . . ."

And I'm a Christian? One of those people who, like Christ, is more concerned about others than myself? Obeying God and following his commands? Like:

Ro 15:2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ro 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

Ga 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Ga 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Yeah, well, my conceited world doesn't actually seem to line up with Scripture. The problem the Corinthian church had with spiritual gifts seems to be my problem. I'm more concerned with myself and what I have than others and what they have. I'm interested in the attention and applause I'll get, not the help and encouragement I can be to others. I came to church to be edified, not to be God's vessel of edification to someone else.

How selfish must I be?
