Thank you all for the great feedback about a classroom theme! Honestly, it might sound lazy, but I'm thinking it might just be more practical for me to skip trying to have a main theme for the room. Theme's are fun, but sometimes you spend more time trying to come up with a bulletin board for each month that goes with your theme and goes with what you're teaching. I think this year I'm just going to focus on having my room and its decorations reflect what we are excited about in our classes. What do we like? - reinforce it with a decoration. What are we struggling with learning? - use a bulletin board to illustrate it. What do we need to commit to memory (aka grammar rules, verses, scientific processes, etc.)? - review it with a poster or wall area dedicated to it. This makes my classroom work for
me and my students, instead of me working on my classroom.
I look forward to having a great time incorporating your ideas into this year and future years. The book ideas will be excellent for Reading Emphasis Month in March and since you've passed them on to me now, I'll be prepared later.

Just make sure your students don't realize they can look at the board during a test or quiz unless I don't understand your idea. At least that what I first thought of but it is a good idea...not that my opinion matters

It's a tricky thing, having a bulletin board to reinforce a concept you're going to test. It's a good idea to cover up the board or change it right before the test!
